When Will You Ever Be Happy? Stop the Critics!

How to Deal With Criticism. By Kelly Durant     Matthew 11:18-20
18 For John came neither eating nor drinking, and they say, ‘He has a demon.’ 19 The Son of Man came eating and drinking, and they say, ‘Look, a glutton and a winebibber, a friend of tax collectors and sinners!’ But wisdom is justified by her children.”
Once a man and his son were walking to the market with their donkey.  A countryman noticed that the donkey was walking alongside them and laughed, “You fools, what is a donkey for but to ride upon?!”
So the man decided to put his son on the donkey and they went on their way. A little while later they passed a group of men. One of them said, "See that lazy youngster, he lets his father walk while he rides."
The man then ordered the boy to get off, and got on himself. But they hadn't gone far when they passed two women. One of them said to the other, "Shame on that lazy lout to let his poor little son trudge along."
The man didn't know what to do at first. He thought and thought and finally decided to put his son up in front of him on the donkey.
Soon they reached the town. There too the passers-by began to jeer and point at them. The man stopped and asked them what they were scoffing at. The people said, "Aren't you ashamed of yourself for overloading that poor donkey?"
The man and the boy got off. They had to think of what to do all over again. At last they had an idea. They took a long pole and tied the donkey's feet to it. Then they raised the pole to their shoulders and carried the donkey upside down.
They went along amid the laughter of all who met them till they came to the market bridge. The donkey accidentally got one of his feet loose and kicking out, caused the boy to drop his end of the pole. In the struggle that followed, the poor donkey, with his forelegs tied together, fell over the bridge and drowned.
When you try to please everybody, you won't please anybody. Oh, the Critics!
Some people are never happy with anything in life! Actually we can conclude by the way some people complain about things that they would not even be happy in heaven!
Imagine someone in heaven trying to rebuke Jesus and his leadership ways.  Do you think God will tolerate opinions, criticisms with carnal reasoning in heaven over his kindness to sinners?  No! So why do some think we should tolerate it here on earth? God will purge out all our sin of discontentment if we will just let Him! Critical dry grumpy people don’t have much of the good fruit of the spirit!
Did you notice how in Jesus time some people had such audacity, such disrespect, such rebellion that they would criticize Jesus actions?  The verses show Jesus getting criticism from others for loving inclusively all people, even sinners.
V. 18 They said ,“John had a demon”, why since he was holy and good? John the Baptist represented the law and people did not want to have to obey the law in a way that included repenting from being bad. They just wanted to do rituals and hope to buy God’s appeasement. John had the old law, but he was offering something new, a way to make it up with God, a public baptism to symbolize a new start with God and a repentance to obey the law better from then on.
No one could do all the requirements of the law so John was preaching, “Start over, just declare publically that you are a sinner, that you can never be perfect and repent by a washing of the spirit (by water)for God’s kingdom is here.
You would think many people would have been happy right then with a new chance? But John was strict, he required that the people be holy and live the sacrificial holy lifestyle, one of self-control, no drinking of alcohol and partying and having fun, no eating for pleasure either; a total submission to the law in a holy vow of sacrifice.  This was radical conservatism with high demand.
But did his preaching work and get people to live holy lives? It did with some, but it did not make happy the majority. The people wanted an alternative.
Now let’s consider Jesus way which was different. Remember Jesus never baptized others with water! He got baptized so that heaven would open so to others it would be revealed that John’s ministry had ended at that point.
John, the most holy man on earth, but honored and worshipped Jesus as Holy and he declared to worship Him now as He would baptize you with the Holy Spirit! That is our symbol of the Salvation Army flag, the fire baptism of the Holy Spirit!
So contrary to John you would think that Jesus would have become widely accepted and praised after everyone met Him since he was a people person, a socializer, a party-er, and not a hermit in the desert but one who would share the food & drink with any sinner.  His first miracle was making wine from water!
So Jesus was not demanding a water baptism, nor a strict following of the law. But did he get so popular with the simplicity of a gospel? He just loved people and said to, “repent and sin no more” and “love God and your neighbor as yourself”!
No! Jesus was criticized too! John was harsh and strict and they said he had a demon! Now that is quite a heavy insult for a holy man! Jesus is merciful to bad people and requires no rituals, just a repentance, and no one was happy with that either! They labeled him dirty (and having a demon too) for having dirty friends and a drunk for sharing meals with sinners! For sure they laughed and had fun!
So, what is God’s lesson? Nothing makes most people happy! Neither the strict condemning types, nor the fun loving love the sinner types! We hear ignorant opinions all the time against good people in the news and within the churches
Unhappy people always want an excuse as to why they are not happy with you and not submit to authority, and this includes God’s ordained authority. People of this complainy nature never admit they are wrong; they always point the finger to the authority to say it is wrong. But they will be surprised in the final judgment!
Think back, in Jesus time it must have been like today, some people must have sincerely repented and never gone back to their old sins and were saved and content. Others who were just following the group, did the baptism just to be in with the crowd. The baptism gave them a warm feeling for a week or more but then went back to being their same old sinful behavior. It was the same then as it is today! With harshness or with mercy some people always remain discontent!
Criticisms always abound in the church.  People may talk, the Captain is too nice, he lets people do whatever they want.  I will admit, It is true, I am a “yes’ man but I do say “no” to things obviously wrong. I do say “yes” to include all kinds of people to participate in anything we can offer.  I was a sinner once and know the rejected feeling. I just want all sinners to convert by knowing we love them.
Let’s give a chance to the new ones, I want to give chances to drunks as William Booth did, and even more chances again with the hope that each person will and grow in their faith in Jesus. But people behind your back will always talk trash. They may be angry at me that I would waste my time with a person they despise. But Jesus rejected only the condemning hypocrites, and never the sinners!
I live with myself having the fame of loving people and being flexible and being a lover of strange cultures and an accepter of the extreme humble, of the rejected people. This is how Jesus has used me for 36 years now! It is my personality to encourage and love even the sinners who are abusers of my generosity. I am not ignorant, I know when people are using or abuse me. But returning love back, Isn’t this what Jesus implied referring to putting coals of fire on a person’s head?
Forgive me for using myself as an example, but I have heard people judge me dozens of times, ‘Oh, he is a soft leader and needs, what we need is someone to come in and put their fist down and put all the people in their place!’ Really?  The mentality of everyone needs to get-it-socked-to-them always backfires. It is God’s fist that will come down on the ones who are the grumpiest making all the noise with their unsolicited opinions! Corrections first should be for the ones unjustifiably critical! Critics speak up to try to impose their influence escusing their bad self!
Matthew 7:2For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again.
Well, you may have had “no to everything” leaders in the past and I am certain it was unpleasant, (I know I hate it!) and what if you have to live with that leadership style in the future? I pray you never do have to suffer under the small minded dictator type. Already in politics, and in our jobs, and in the world we get enough of the power trippers already. “No” people are impossible wanting all control!!
The sad reality is in the world most churches I have seen have pastors who are the dictator types controlling everything as a one man show, telling everyone what to do, and often this is to serve their personal needs. This is an injustice of oppression amongst Christians. False start up churches that are not representing Jesus love but a legalism of their own device for their own prosperity! Their abuse need to be denounced and their churches abandoned.
Observe that the critical types, the harsh disciplinarian types usually have few followers of them in Christ.  They usually are avoided and for good reason. After all, who wants friendship, advice, and instruction from someone they know is not loving and merciful? Being overly strict breaks the spirit and even can cause many to stumble in their Christian walk. People who say “No” to everyone, never listening to the councils represent the old way made obsolete by Jesus!
I have served many times in my life under legalistic leaders that say “No” to everything and I can witness they usually have little or no fruit for Christ! What is better, “yes” leaders or “no” leaders? What is needed is the wisdom to know when to apply the yes or the no, but for a leader to be always be difficult and problematic just because a few people need some stronger rules applied is wrong as the majority of people and the sinners deserve mercy and love.
“So wisdom is justified by her children.” (vs 20)  What it amounts to, and always remember this, when people should be under conviction to change their hearts by the leader’s message yet they refuse, they will then excuse their selves and then pass criticism on to the leader! They tear down to build their selves up!
They excuse, “There are others who criticize, the leader is the bad one!”  These unhappy ones did it to John and to Jesus! The ones with demons accused the righteous ones of having demons! How this futile judging and excuses! Confront others: Let’s talk about how bad you are for always being unhappy for a change!
There are some people who all their lives have been seeing everything wrong in everybody else, always harshly criticizing leaders and others. Like criticizing a person on a unicycle that they move back and forth too much to stay up when they have never tried it and if they did they would fall and hit their head! Critical people make up excuses for their pride, lack of repentance, and change! Notice that critical people over time always criticize all leaders and everyone around them! They are gossiping to you now, then they will gossip about you later!
Whether the leader is like John or Jesus, hard or soft, whether he is demanding the people do things for their selves or he does them for them, it does not matter. The discontent critic will always justify their selves and find fault in the other person and never find faults within their own selves. People with no personal peace with God always bring conflict!
Expose the critics in your homelife amongst your own family as well! The truly holy and loving people who often do the most good are quite often attacked the most and made fun of the most by others as the gullible ones doing favors. The critical ones are really the bad ones though as they accuse the good ones of being stupid, impossible, or evil a demon! It is like Cain and Able, the bad one hates the fact that the other one (brother) is authentically good and they want to pull you down to their level!
Do you have the conviction to just be happy in Jesus now? Pray to stop the habit of having the unhappy critical attitude. Do something positive, don’t just run your mouth, get involved and help fix it! Show mercy & love as Jesus did over & over!
Will you accept the authority of Jesus leadership style of love and mercy and of doing good to sinners without the criticisms? Many of you here have a true love from God in your hearts and have proof of this love and made many friends, while others who often have sour comments seem to not have many friends. Ask yourself; am I critical of too many things? Am I harsh always wanting to see others punished? Pray and ask God to help you to be merciful as you want mercy, loving as you want love, and submissive to authority as you desire respect as well.

Earth Day Sunday Message

Earth Day Sunday             Psalm  24                 Kelly Durant          4-22-12
Have you heard the joke about the scientist and God? In the future it will be possible to take matter and change it and take the minerals out of the soil to make any element and even life. For example, today in a lab you can combine chemicals and make artificial flavors and smells. You can take genes from humans a splice them into animals and get strange combinations. But the day came that scientists were proud of their selves and they created a machine that could talk to God. So they gave God a challenge.
They said, “God you made Adam from the soil of the earth, and we too can manipulate the chemicals to make a man. You are not so special after all. Let’s see who can make another man the fastest?” God said, “I accept this challenge”. The scientists were ready the next day and said, “Okay, I am taking 150 pound of dirt and 100 pounds of water we will start now.” Then God replied, “Wait! That is my dirt! You need to make your own dirt!”
Today is earth day! What an awesome earth God created! Recently in February I shared with you about conserving God’s resources based on the seminar that was given to the Officers. Today I will re-emphasize again that God lent to man this earth and we need to take care of it, consume less, save, and honor God’s creation.
The Salvation Army has Earth Day on the calendar and the leadership has made it known they expect us to observe it! (See the Southern Spirit) Why? Because worldwide there are multimillions of supporters in making the earth a more pleasant place by using less, recycling, planting trees, and using more renewable resources and we must agree, this is good!
The earth is not ours to abuse and to destroy. The scripture says, Psalm 24:1
The earth is the LORD's, and the fullness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein.  1The earth is the LORD's, and the fulness thereof; the world, and they that dwell therein.2For he hath founded it upon the seas, and established it upon the floods3Who shall ascend into the hill of the LORD? or who shall stand in his holy place? 4He that hath clean hands, and a pure heart; who hath not lifted up his soul unto vanity, nor sworn deceitfully. 5He shall receive the blessing from the LORD, and righteousness from the God of his salvation.
We cannot do with God’s creation anything that we want, it is like a rental property and we must respect it and be pure in our actions! We must make it produce but not destroy it, and investigate and not do business with people who are destroying it or abusing!
We should boycott industries that use slave labor, and pollute excessively!
This respect for creation is Biblical. But as in all systems, there is always politics in the middle and sadly certain selected industries have, in the name of being “green”, made multimillions with government tax money.
This misuse of funds however, does not mean that we as Christians disagree with the good ideas behind the green movement and resource conservation; to the contrary! Anyone not supportive of using fewer resources, stopping pollution, and promoting natural solutions to our energy problems are being disrespectful to God’s creation.
But many places exist where abuses abound and the people are uninformed, indifferent, and shamefully wasteful. The world’s people cannot go on producing such a high volume of waste and trash! We need to become more moderate. The earth is getting worn as in    Isaiah 51:6
Lift up your eyes to the heavens, and look upon the earth beneath: for the heavens shall vanish away like smoke, and the earth shall wax old like a garment, and they that dwell therein shall die in like manner: but my salvation shall be for ever, and my righteousness shall not be abolished.
Like old clothes, people are wearing out the earth, and it looks faded right now!
What is amazing to me is how God hardwired every human to love the beauty of the earth and his creation. The glory of the Lord is in all places! Isaiah 6:3 And one cried unto another, and said, Holy, holy, holy, is the LORD of hosts: the whole earth is full of his glory.    How many of you have paintings of nature at home?
All cultures have art that include nature, flowers, farmland, and mountains. As humans we are awestruck at the wonder of God’s creation! People are beautiful as well! As in Genesis, God made it all and He said that “It was good!”
I love how many of you have pretty gardens in your homes as well. Merida, Walter & Reina, Al & Nikki, and many of you have nice gardens, and this life brings beauty to the eyes!   We need to have a tree planting day here at the Corps! Right?
When we respect and love our planet and all things in it, we must be careful so that our adoration does not become extremism and lust. In other words, celebrating “Earth Day” is respecting God, it is a worship of God for His creation. But an “Earth Day” without God becomes materialism and lust. We can praise God for the beauty but not be so caught up in it we lose focus on who made it!
1 John 2:15-17 15Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.16For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world. 17And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.
We know from Romans 1 we are never to worship the creation but the creator!
21Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. 22Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, 23And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things.
Idolatry is still alive today as some people worship celebrities, their pets, or as in India, give money to the animal gods. Some people tattoo animals on their bodies.
It is important you know what other religions believe about God concerning man’s interactions with the earth and its creatures so you can appreciate the Bible and  Jesus’ liberating salvation as never before!      As a Christian you have a healthy view of God’s earth appreciating all things with a balance!
So in relation to how many others see the earth think of this. The atheists, or materialists, inspired by Satan’s appetite for destruction, disrespect God’s creation and abuse and contaminate it and destroy totally!
These images of contamination you will not find as art hanging in the living room of anyone! Remember, God did not create this on the earth when He made it, it is evil man that creates this!
Now on the opposite side of the spectrum: Did you know there are many religions today with hundreds of millions of followers that worship the creatures instead of the creator? This includes people, animals, and even insects?
Let’s look at only one in India. There are 5 million of these people and many have servants and their job is to walk in front of them and sweep the ground where they are going to walk to be sure they have swept away any bugs in the way. Why? Because to kill a bug might mean they would be killing an ancestor and they believe they would be condemned and severely punished by God for taking a life! After all, who wants to return to earth after they die and be reincarnated to live as a bug?!
This is animism and obsession, it is not a Judeo Christian view and therefore false. What they believe is that a part of the spirit of God lives in the soil, in all inanimate and animate objects, as well as in bugs, and in the animals in the earth.
This is an extreme mentality in which you are a victim to nature! Be careful with this because many Hispanic cultures accept this idea too from past Native Indian & African cultures. Ask yourself do I accept that an spirit can come out of a chicken or an object and either bless or curse me? This is a totally Satanic false belief!
This contradicts the command of God in Genesis 1:28And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.     We have the control!
How you and I understand who God is and how he wants us to live dominating yet not abusing while on His earth plays a major role in our Christian testimony!
Some people live destructively for greedy money, while others live in poverty consuming almost nothing. Balance is what God wants! Gandhi expressed it well, “The earth has enough for every man’s need but not enough for every man’s greed!”
I thank God for the Bible that is the absolute truth, without it, you and I would be trapped in lifestyle of suffering and misery and guilt for our extreme inter actions.  The majority of the people of the world live consuming and fabricating destruction in excess or they live in horrible poverty and those who can do nothing about it!
If there are close to 2 billion Christians then it is a shame that there are still another 5 billion who are not yet saved and enlightened and we need to get busy spreading the good news of Jesus! Christians should use their influence to show how they value God’s creation by recycling, using less!
It is our job to bring salvation to souls and consequently we will be conserving all life due to our understanding of being moderate in all things. Proverbs 23:2 And put a knife to thy throat, if thou be a man given to appetite.
When we say we value the earth, God’s creation, we are including all things in it which means people are first, exploited in the sex trade, in slave labor markets, but also cruelty to animals, and the destruction of land by raping forests. In Brazil they wash down entire mountains just to get a few pieces of gold!
Ambitious Godless people with wrong ideologies have always aggressively contaminated and destroyed the earth in people’s zeal to have riches or military dominance.
People without God have ambition for power and wealth that leaves behind a dead zone or a desert! How many hundreds of times God punished the wicked with no rain, floods, earthquakes, or volcano fire from the sky! Our mission as Christians is to show we are good stewards of everything in our personal lives, giving to God, being productive, and not being wasteful. Like Jesus mentioned with the talents, if you have 5, 10, or only 1 God intends for you and I to use what we have and make it produce.
But production that involves abuse, extreme waste, is never for the Christian! Our conscience will not allow us to harm without feeling guilty! Satan’s favorite is cruelty by abuse of drugs & alcohol, sex, slave labor exploitation, and thievery. These are things mafias and dictators control and they are the enemies of God and of you and I!
What will you give up today to save resources? Imagine taking a shorter shower and you might save $40 on your next light and water bill! You could send that $40 to some hungry person on the mission field. Saving, recycling, and having a balance in all of what you do is God’s standard. Pray to change your habits that may be wasteful in order to be a better testimony of respecting and loving God’s creation!

The Betrayal of Jesus! Weds Night Edison Corps 4-4-1 By Kelly Durant  Matthew 27:22
22Pilate saith unto them, What shall I do then with Jesus which is called Christ? They all say unto him, Let him be crucified.
How many of you love Jesus? How many of you have shared with someone else about Jesus’ life, birth, betrayal, death & resurrection? This is a true story. In the 1800’s there was a missionary sent to Africa to preach Jesus to a tribe that had never heard about Jesus. He got to know the people and lived with them several months. Then the day came that he was telling the story of Jesus’ life, with all eyes on him he continued all the story, about how Jesus was eating with the disciples in the last supper. The anxious missionary expected to pray the sinner’s prayer and get souls saved at the end of the story. Then, however, when he came to the part about Jesus being betrayed by Judas at the last supper, all the people got up. Suddenly, to his surprise and despair all the people started cheering as if that was the end of the story!
What? What was going on? He asked the interpreter, why do they cheer? He said that in their culture, if you betray someone, it means you had more power, so you are considered the new powerful one to be honored. Imagine how horrible, these people thought it was good that Jesus was betrayed! How crazy, right? It took a lot preaching & teaching to help this African tribe to grasp what sin is and what real virtues of loyalty and compassion are!
Today, thank God there are not many cultures quite this bad! In the Salvation Army in all the 123 countries where there are evil gangs controlling huge neighborhoods, most of the gang leaders at least have the decency to respect the Salvation Army children’s schools or health clinics because they do good! Right? Even evil people most of the time respect others who are good!
How do we define betrayal?  Dictionary:  1. to deliver or expose to an enemy by treachery or disloyalty 2. to be unfaithful in guarding, maintaining, or fulfilling: ... In the end, the results of a betrayal are that someone will suffer greatly due to the sin of someone close by that had their trust!
Let’s seriously examine what betrayal meant for Jesus. This is what is happening in this verse 22. Pilate saith unto them, What shall I do then with Jesus which is called Christ? They all say unto him, Let him be crucified. This verse exposes the embodiment of pure evil of man’s injustice to another, of envy and violence, of paying evil for good, of one day praising and honoring Jesus in the city, to the next day of crying out, “Crucify him to death”!
How is it that there existed (and exist) people so full of maliciousness? This was more evil than what the dictator Pilate practiced! Not even Pilate was so bad that he wanted to kill Jesus. Looking at Pilate’s life we may be reminded of James 2:19 Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble.
In the case of Pilate, he was a devil, the judge who could deliver up for torture and execution anyone, but he respected the fact that Jesus had done no wrong.  Vs. 23And the governor said, Why, what evil hath he done? But they cried out the more, saying, Let him be crucified.  In the end though, He was guilty by being an accomplice, an unwilling one but still a betrayer.
Recall that Pilate is a pagan Roman and he worshipped many gods, he was an unrepentant idolatrous, adulterous, murderous dictator and he was accustomed to putting to death anyone as he pleased. His law was usually under his control, but in this case, the Jews were interjecting their police force to bring Jesus to trial so they can kill Jesus.
The shocking reality is, not even this horrible devil of a dictator Pilate was so callous that he wanted to kill a good man that was no threat to anyone.
He even had his second conscious, his wife, and what was her opinion on the matter? Matt 27: 19 When he was set down on the judgment seat, his wife sent unto him, saying, Have thou nothing to do with that just man: for I have suffered many things this day in a dream because of him.
But Pilate had it confirmed that Jesus was good & just and he must have feared him and he hated how he was in the middle of his betrayal. Men, aren’t you glad your wives are always there to confirm you in your feelings and convictions? And this verse confirms we all should pay closer attention to our mates advice and to our disturbing dreams as it may be God through the Holy Spirit sending us a message! We need to listen to each other and God more! Right? Amen?
Today, betrayal amongst family members, in corporate America, in politics is too commonplace! How many of you have ever helped a friend and then later the friend does something very wrong that violates you, like they borrow a large sum of money and then don’t pay you back? Or how many of you have ever been full of hope that a person you are helping someone to come to know God but then suddenly they disappear out of your life with no gratitude? It hurts doesn’t it? This is betrayal.
I have discovered in my lifetime that all families have had in them betrayers of some kind in them, fathers or mothers that abandon their kids, or brothers or sisters that backstab. Betrayal is a great sin; a heartless, cold, selfish act that destroys greatly and it even murders!
Most agree Pilate wanted to do right. He thought he could torture Jesus just enough to satisfy the people’s maliciousness with the 39 lashes to please the crowd and then let him go. He schemed that he would hurt Jesus just enough to please the people hoping they would decide to release Jesus from execution, but his plan backfired!
Vs 17Therefore when they were gathered together, Pilate said unto them, Whom will ye that I release unto you? Barabbas, or Jesus which is called Christ? 18For he knew that for envy they had delivered him. 20 But the chief priests and elders persuaded the multitude that they should ask for Barabbas, and ask to kill Jesus.
So what have we observed with all of this? That leaders in the world, like Pilate, are willing victims of their own systems of evil, and they are puppets. I am sure they hate the fact that they are trapped in condemnation and guilt that they know God will punish them. Pilot washed his hands remember? He was trying to persuade himself that he really did not have any guilt for the death of Jesus. But end then, he did not defend Jesus and he was a man-pleaser for evil men fulfilling prophesy.
In a court of law, if you see a crime happening, and you comply by not doing something about it, then you are considered an accomplice, right? In the world today there are many who are like Pilate, weak and fearful of others who do evil and they succumb to them. Today people consider “snitching” bad when actually it is making you guilty to being an accomplice to a crime.
Pilate was one man, but now let’s take a look at the aggressive betrayers, the “They” in 22 verse. Who were they? They refers to the crowd of the townspeople people! It was the people who wanted his death! But who persuaded them of doing this? Amongst the “They” were the jealous religious leaders of the day.
Vs. 1When the morning was come, all the chief priests and elders of the people took counsel against Jesus to put him to death: 2And when they had bound him, they led him away, and delivered him to Pontius Pilate the governor.
This branch of Jewish chief priests premeditatedly plotted to kill Jesus! This is the worst type of betrayal there is, to be betrayed by those of your own kind! Wasn’t Jesus a Jew? Wasn’t Jesus a studious teacher of the Torah, their sacred law? Wasn’t Jesus considered a spiritual respected Rabbi in the community? A miracle worker praised for his good works? Wasn’t he born and raised in the same region? You would think they would have protected him from the enemy, the Romans but they did not!
In the end, this aggressive betrayal, this arrest done by the guards of the Jewish temple, exposes of one of the worst back-stabbings of all history! Judas had his hand in it but the priests even paid him money to be sure he would deliver Jesus into their hands.  Amongst those guilty in the crowd, the scriptures make it clear that it is the ones who hated Jesus and cried out to crucify Him!
What happens today if a killer by trickery gets the court to execute an innocent person when they are the guilty one? Does the law let them go free to kill again and again? No, they execute them too, right? Jesus made it clear the fate of those who would reject him.  Matt. 13:49 So shall it be at the end of the world: the angels shall come forth, and sever the wicked from among the just. 50 And shall cast them into the furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth.  Anyone who aggressive rejects and betrays Jesus in this life will be severely punished by God in the final judgment!
Today we live in a world where people have taken the freedom to aggressively reject Jesus and these people continue to betray Him and crucify him a fresh by their sinful actions on Jesus followers. In Africa Muslims have killed Christians by the hundreds of thousands with no punishment by their laws; communists too have killed Christians by the millions with no consequence. But these who kill will face Jesus Himself one day for judgment!
Those who actively persecute Jesus followers today are guilty of betraying the God who made them and wants to save them, and it is not God’s fault they choose for themselves eternal death and separation from Him. How horrifying that this rejection of Jesus keeps happening!
The people cried out to crucify him! Imagine, this was one of the most horrible forms of death known to man, one of days of suffering, and the people did not just say, “off with his head” for a quick death, they said to crucify him! Why such extreme hate? Satan, our enemy still uses people to destroy all the good he can! He is cruel and wants extreme suffering for all!
Let’s look at Jesus record while on earth. He healed the sick, he made the blind to see, and the deaf to hear and he fed the people by the thousands! He was like an alien from another planet with superpowers! If he would have lived longer, he could have healed every sick person in all Israel! He was like no other person ever, and there has never been any one with all his powers ever since! It made no sense to kill Him! It was pure extreme jealousy and betrayal!
If we were to go back just a week earlier, when He entered into Jerusalem, you will recall thousands worshipped and praised Him! The reason He was betrayed was that His preaching exposed the truth of the evil in others. He seemed to always have a tough word for the hypocrites who used the church only for their own gain of power and money.
Everyone who lives in sin and does not change becomes a hater of the good and they basically in the spirit are yelling out to crucify Jesus all over again! Sin in people always leads to betrayal of those who do good to them and this can lead to murder, and a horrific crime is committed!
So why do I talk so much about betrayal? So each of us search our hearts to see if you or I have been sinful and disloyal to Jesus or to his people anytime in the past!
I will admit I was a betrayer to Jesus once! I grew up in the church and I knew about sin but in my teen years I strayed away. I recall in my days in college when I smoked marijuana, I was just your regular carnal selfish Joe trying to enjoy pleasure without guilt. But one day I made friends with some missionaries that invited me to serve Jesus with them. I thought they were crazy to invite me to live abroad and give up all my comforts and go! I was cool, had my life my way but God was shaking up my world. I had a dream one night that changed my life!
In the dream I was in a rock concert that turned out to be a disillusionment because the artist was not showing up for hours and in the meantime my body was getting numb due to breathing all the marijuana smoke. I felt like I was going become glued to the chair and die there! My heart was beating hard! Then suddenly some strange people just appeared in the aisle as doing some crazy skit or drama. A person came up to me and put a hammer and nail in my hand and said, “Here we need you to help us crucify this man! Nail this hand on this piece of wood!” (and Jesus was laying there looking up at me) I panicked! I threw the hammer and nail down and ran out of the concert’s back door as fast as I could! Outside there were thousands of police ready to arrest all the people inside and I barely escaped!
To interpret it, the police were like God’s angles at the end of the world ready to capture and punish everyone for their sins. If I would have stayed in my sins, after knowing about the sacrifice and love Jesus gave to me I would have been guilty with no chance of redemption by betraying Him in a horrible way. I repented and gave my life to Him at age 21! And this is why I know Spanish and Portuguese, because I lived 14 years abroad evangelizing.
Here is the message: Don’t become a victim in the world like Pilate became trapped in a system that caused Him to allow Jesus suffering. Don’t be persuaded by the evil crowd that yelled out, “Crucify him”. Mark 8:37-38  37 Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul?  38Whosoever therefore shall be ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation; of him also shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he cometh in the glory of his Father with the holy angels.  If you continue in your sin you will be a betrayer of the most holy, innocent amazing loving kind person that ever walked the earth who was God in the flesh, Jesus! He even conquered death by resurrecting and coming out of the grave and He wants to take you out of the grave too and give you eternal life!
And the most amazing thing is the peace He gives you because He takes away your sin, and guilt, shame, and pain! He even will forgive you for betrayal, denial, and abandonment if only you will just go back and obey Him and love Him! Pray for Him to forgive you right now, and your life will be re-created like you never have imagined! Has someone wrong you, pray for them now!
